Basket+ART
Participatory art project

Our assignment was to create a public artwork together with holiday interns for three weeks in a city district in Orebro, Sweden. The participants were a random mix of young people from all over town, they didn’t know each other which in itself was a challenge both for us and them.

When we work with co-creative art projects, we use experiences and working methods from our own Co-art practice, which is to give space, be open to different suggestions, not wanting to own but respect each other’s ideas and have constructive conversations. With premises like these, we work in a method that becomes a process that guides the participants step by step into the ”creative space” through different artistic exercises, techniques and formats, for example the paper size. A method that creates respect between the participants, holds the group together, provides focus and concentration throughout the process.

For us it is important to use materials of good quality, as it facilitates the creative process, initially we started with drawing exercises and then switched to acrylic paint and collage while changing the size of the participants’ paper. It was important that everyone became aware of the scope of the assignment in order to be able to paint an entire basketball court.
